Rik Mikals

I bought a farm in Prosser and have two great dogs named Phoebe and Barkley. My son is an aspiring musician who plays, performs and writes original music in his band, No Hope. I'm known for having a never-ending knowledge of pop culture, and I'm a huge comic book fan -- I have a collection easily totaling more than 5,000 comics.

I remember buying my first 45 on a class trip to Portland and it was Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart." The first 33 disc I bought was an album no one would expect me to buy, and I've never told the story until today.

I've been a comic fan since I was a kid and we are living in a crazy age where technology has finally caught up to what can be published on a comic book page. X-Men in 2000 started the wave of newsprint to film explosion and with that a flood of comic book related movies.

There have been some hits as Iron Man, Avengers and The Dark Knight followed by the bombs of Green Lantern, Jonah Hex and Elektra. I actually liked Elektra but it did bomb at the box office.

DC Comics has been trying to have a hit movie that doesn't involve Superman or Batman and I think with Suicide Squad, they are one step closer.

What If Marvel Comic Book Characters Had A Facebook [VIDEO]

I am so pumped up for the premiere of Marvel's Dr. Strange on November 4th. You can bet I'll have my feet kicked up on the back of a seat cushion at the Sunnyside Grand Cinema with a big ole' bucket of popcorn awaiting the arrival of the Sorcerer Supreme. I've been a huge fan of the Steve Ditko character since his inception and the thought of finally seeing the cloaked one on the big screen boggles my mind.

How Glen Campbell Saved Me From Fifth Grade Choir [VIDEO]

I was driving home today in my cherry-red Mustang and blaring out of my rolled-down windows were the sweet sounds of Glen Campbell. I've become a fan in recent years and as he fights a deadly disease, I know we will soon lose one of the great country legends.

As I drove home to Prosser tonight, a particular song came on from my Glen Campbell's "10 Greatest Hits" and I was instantly back in the fifth grade at Whitman Elementary in Lewiston, Idaho.

I recalled that's when Glen Campbell saved me from being in the fifth grade choir.
