There are some stories that are almost to disturbing to even talk about, and this is one of them. A dog ate three of his owner’s toes as the diabetic man slept, most likely out of instinct to help remove diseased flesh, according to animal experts. James Little, 61, called 911 to say his dog had eaten his digits while he was sleeping. Little suffers from diabetes, of which one symptom is numbness in the hands and feet. The dog, Shiba Inu, was acting on instinct to remove diseased flesh and does not appear to be dangerous, Douglas County Animal Control Deputy Lee Bartholomew told reporters. In August, a dog in Michigan bit off most of its owner’s infected big toe after the man passed out from an alcohol binge. The man had diabetes, and the animal was apparently attracted to a festering wound. Little has given up ownership of the dog and hopes someone with a good home will adopt him. The dog was taken to a Pet Adoption Center in Roseburg, Oregon.
