Jesse Larson sang for his musical life on Tuesday night’s (May 16) episode of The Voice, throwing down a smoking cover of Chris Stapleton‘s “Tennessee Whiskey.”

Larson offered up a scorching rendition of Stapleton’s “I Was Wrong” on Monday night (May 15), and although it was extremely well-received, the Team Adam member found himself in danger of being cut from the competition just as he had a chance at the final four on Tuesday’s results show.

Forced to give an Instant Save performance, Larson offered up another Stapleton cover with “Tennessee Whiskey,” which George Jones and even David Allan Coe had previously recorded, but that Stapleton made his own when he released the song as a single from his breakthrough Traveller album.

Larson squared off against Brennley Brown and Hunter Plake from Gwen Stefani‘s team for the Instant Save performances, with the goal of earning the most fan votes via Twitter. His performance rang true, saving the singer from elimination right when it mattered the most.

15-year-old Brown didn’t fare as well, despite a strong cover of Sara Evans‘ “Suds in the Bucket” and a duet with Lauren Duski on the Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings classic “Good Hearted Woman.” She was eliminated from The Voice on Tuesday night, leaving Larson, Aliyah Moulden, Lauren Duski and Chris Blue to go onto the final four next week. The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8PM ET on ABC.
