NBC Cancels ‘Sean Saves the World,’ Is ‘The Michael J. Fox’ Show Next?

NBC Sean Saves the World Canceled

For all the heads and attention NBC managed to garner this year with buzzy programming like ‘The Sound of Music’ live and upcoming ‘Rosemary’s Baby‘ remake, it’s no secret that its Thursday comedy lineup has tanked to the point that ‘Community‘ and ‘Parks and Recreation‘ are considered the prize-winners. To that end, the Peacock has officially pulled production on Sean Hayes sitcom ‘Sean Saves the World,’ despite additional episodes ordered.

NBC had initially ordered 13 episodes of the comedy, which picked up the former ‘Will & Grace’ star Hayes as a gay single father, before ordering an additional five installments. Now, with production shut down, only 14 episodes of the order have filmed, with the remaining two to likely close out the series following NBC’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

‘Sean Saves the World’ debuted with a modest start of 4.4 million viewers, though the number has since dwindled to a low of around 2.6. By contrast, Michael J. Fox‘s ‘The Michael J. Fox Show‘ hasn’t fared much better in the ratings — though experiences significant gains with DVR viewage — while NBC has already committed to at least 22 episodes. The network will premiere ‘About A Boy‘ and ‘Growing Up Fisher’ in the coming weeks, though the future still looks admittedly grim. No, not that ‘Grimm.’

That’s zero for two on Hayes’ co-star Megan Hilty (‘Smash’) as well, but what do you think? Should NBC have counted on ‘Sean Saves the World,’ or good riddance overall?
