Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ Gets a Synopsis and ‘Cars’ Debuts a New Short

Pixar

For the first year since 2005 we won’t be getting a new full-length Pixar film, and while that’s kind of a bummer to think about, we do have some wonderful Pixar news to share today. The studio has released an official synopsis for one of two (yes, two) new films aimed for released in 2015: Pete Docter’s ‘Inside Out.’ And, as a bonus, the studio has debuted a new ‘Cars‘ short on its Disney Movies Anywhere platform today, just in time for the holiday.

At Disney’s D23 Expo last year, we learned about Docter’s latest project, ‘Inside Out,’ the story of a little 11 year-old girl and the battling emotions inside of her, voiced by an amazing cast: Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black. It’s an ambitious project, and one we can’t wait to see realized in full, and now it has an official synopsis:

From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

In addition, Pixar debuted a brand new ‘Cars’ short today via their Disney Movies Anywhere platform, which is sort of like the Cloud, but for your Disney movies. You can watch your favorite films, sync them up with your iTunes account, or get access to new content, like behind the scenes footage and new shorts … like ‘The Radiator Springs 500 1/2,’ released just in time to end the holiday weekend, and featuring the return of Owen Wilson, who joins the voice cast again for the first time since ‘Cars 2.’

Unlike previous shorts under the ‘Mater’s Tall Tales’ label, this short comes to us from the new ‘Tales from Radiator Springs’ branch, which expands to include more of the landscape and characters of Carburetor County. If you have a Disney Movies Anywhere account, you can watch the short right now, and if not, it takes approximately the same amount of energy you’ll expend while flipping channels on TV later today, trying to figure out which movie marathon to watch.
