The Lone Ranger,’ directed by Gore Verbinski, is currently in the midst of filming as photos of leads Johnny Depp (Tonto) and Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) in full costume and makeup leaking out left and right. However, recently the crew has experienced a tragedy on the Los Angeles set when one of the crew members died due to drowning on Friday.

TMZ reports that the man was a diver who was working on one of the water-filled tanks when something “went wrong” and wasn’t able to come up for air. Police officials revealed that filming wasn’t being completed at the time and that the man was either testing or cleaning the tank.

Another crew member called 911 to report a medical emergency once bubbles were no longer visibly emerging from his diving gear and the diver was pulled out. Unfortunately, the still-unnamed man was in full cardiac arrest by the time paramedics reached the location. EMTs attempted to resuscitate him while traveling by helicopter to a nearby hospital, but all attempts failed and the diver was pronounced dead at the hospital.

UPDATE – Officials are ruling the cause of death as “natural” as it appears the crew member died of a heart attack.

Walt Disney Studios had this to say:

“We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital… Our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event.”

No further information, including the name of the crew member, has been released at this time. Check back soon for more details as they arise.
