7-Eleven is the perfect convenience store that has just about anything you need from gas to snacks.

And in other countries like Japan it's so much more than just another mini-mart. It's a huge deal.

In a time when more and more stores are closing even I was surprised to read that 7-Eleven stores were closing across the U.S. at a rapid rate.

And what does this mean for Yakima's location?

What's happening to 7-Eleven?

According to Today.com, 444 7-Eleven stores are closing in the United States.

The reason being anything isn't anything wrong with 7-Eleven but the parent company based on Japan is hoping to make the United States version of 7-Eleven more in tune with quality of freshness that Japan prides itself on.

We've already seen new products at many of the 7-Eleven locations including their own brand of snacks like potato chips and snack cakes.

And they'll still continue to open new locations as needed, too. I think these 400+ locations aren't part of their core strategy is what it seemed like from the article on today.com.

As of now, Yakima's location seems to be safe.

There are almost 9,500 7-Eleven locations in the US so still plenty of options.

And I would love to see the location on 16th and Fruitvale get a massive overhaul. I do like that location and the variety it offers but would love to see more fresh food options.

In the meantime, here's hoping we get an updated 7-Eleven in the near future.
