As the weather changes and fall temperatures arrive the fight against the Schneider Springs Fire continues but the urgency has been greatly diminished.

EVEN THOUGH THE FIRE IS SLOWING THE FIGHT CONTINUES

However more than 400 people and resources remain on the fire lines down from nearly 700 a month ago. The best news for the entire week has been the lifting of all evacuation orders that kept property owners nervous for weeks.
Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the fire is now at 43% containment at 107,072 acres.

COOLER WEATHER IS ON THE WAY THIS WEEK

A press release from the national forest says;
"The arrival of cooler and wetter weather has been delayed until Sunday evening. Although temperatures are forecast to be 5 - 10 degrees F cooler than Saturday, conditions will likely support efforts to connect and reinforce containment lines along the 1706 Road near Edgar Rock across to American Ridge and down to the American River as well as along the SR 410 corridor near Cliffdell. To do this, crews will use controlled fire tactics to clean-up pockets of unburned fuels and utilize masticators (heavy equipment that grinds materials into pulp) to remove debris from the lines. Firefighters will perform hazard tree mitigation around Bumping Lake, pick-up equipment no longer in use and monitor American Ridge. Firefighters plan to finish the backhauling (retrieving) of equipment in areas where the fire is contained while road and repair work will continue across the fire area."

HUNDREDS ARE STILL ON FIRE LINES BUT NO EVACUATION ORDERS

There's a lot of people and resources on the fire but the number is shrinking. The number is currently 439 which includes;
Crews (10); Engines (24); Dozers (2); Air Resources (2); Other Heavy Equipment (14)
The helicopters dumping water on the fire are based at the Yakima Airport and fly to and from the airport during the day for refueling.

Closures: Closures on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest lands remain in effect. More information can be found at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/7775/. Washington Dept. of Natural Resources (WADNR) lands continue to have restrictions on campfires. As of September 16, WADNR managed lands outside the fire area are open. Firefighters are hoping for full containment by October 1 but the fight continues until that date.
