Monday is a national holiday to recognize the life and accomplishments of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. As a result of the holiday city, county, state and federal offices will be closed. That includes banks and the post office so no mail delivery on Monday.
If you live in the city of Yakima and you ride the bus there will be no bus service on Monday in the city but garbage service will continue as scheduled Monday. If you get your exercise by enjoying the pool Lions Pool will remain open on Monday.
All the city, county, state and federal offices reopen on Tuesday however most remain closed to the public because of the current pandemic. Mail service and banks reopen Tuesday.

If you have the day off Monday you may want to participate virtually in some events.

The theme to Yakima's 36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is “Power in the People!...Freedom, Equality, Prosperity.”
On Monday two events are planned. The Lower Valley Peace Drive will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. starting at Toppenish Middle School.
In Yakima the annual Peace Walk has been cancelled but a Martin Luther King Jr. Virtual Celebration will be held on ZOOM from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Then January 19 through January 22 the 18th Annual Lee Paggett Food Drive will be held. You can Drop off non-perishable food items at either Eisenhower or Davis High School outside the main offices at both high schools. All the donations will be given to Northwest Harvest.
