Kids who grow up without one of their parents often seem to feel like something's missing -- even if they're otherwise happy and adjusted.

So what happens when a father who's never been around suddenly reappears? That's today's Couples Court question.

Dear Rik and Michele:

My 10-year-old daughter's father has never been in her life.

He was married when we had an affair and I got pregnant. His wife threatened to take everything if he continued to see me, so we broke up with one concession: She allowed him to pay child support. He's never missed a payment.

A month ago, he emailed me to say he's divorced and would like to see his daughter. I don't know what to do because it would break my heart if he let her down. I DO NOT want our lives disrupted after all these years. I know my daughter would be excited to finally have her father in her life. I'm confused over what's best. What should I do?

It's in your hands, jurors. What do you say?
