Don’t Need a Passport When We Have Authentic Spicy Szechuan Chicken Here in Yakima
Last night my food adventures took me to Koto Sushi and Teriyaki on South First in Union Gap. They always have something I'm looking for. One of my kids was craving ramen and my other was craving takoyaki (those fried bread balls of octopus which are amazing). Me? I try to order something new every time. Sure, I might always get sushi, too, as I did, but for my entree I figured I'd go for something with a zing. That's when they had three magical words pop out from the menu.
Spicy Szechuan Chicken
I love all three of those things.
Now, Szechuan, by nature of what it implies, already makes it spicy. I think the spicy was included so nobody would get confused when they order a fancy chicken dish with a Chinese name and discover it's at a spice level above and beyond their tolerance. I do like things spicy so I ordered this expecting the spice, and that's exactly what I got.
Szechuan spice is a type of spice I like. It's all in the peppers and the oils and whatever else they happen to use. All keeping its flavor without it seeming like a challenge or anything like that.
Super delicious.
The chicken was nicely prepared and cooked nicely, not dry or anything like that for me.
This also came with a side of white rice which is perfect for absorbing any residual oils on your tongue. A perfect compliment.
If you're into spicy things, I might recommend the Spicy Szechuan Chicken from Koto Sushi and Teriyaki.
