Forget the PTA, I'm already thinking about my PTO...

Being the proud parent of a Yakima School District public school student, I am already planning ahead for my child's days off from school. I'm not thinking about signing up for the PTA, I over here daydreaming about booking a Spring Break 2024 family trip. I just need to know what days I need to schedule my paid time off (PTO)! Where's that Yakima School District school calendar at?! (Yes, I do know it's not "at the end of the preposition.")

I think would like to book a couple of nights inside a houseboat on the Westside for next year's Spring Break, but first, I need to get answers to my burning school district questions like, "When is Spring Break 2024?" and "How many Early Release Days are there this calendar year?"

Dang. Summer is unofficially over for thousands of primary and secondary students that are in Yakima School District Schools. The first day of school for students in grades 1st thru 12th for the 2023-2024 instructional calendar year is Tuesday, August 22nd. I am more excited than my child is about the start of a new school year, go figure. My kiddo Willow is going to be in the 7th grade. I can't believe it; time is just flying by. It seems like she was just in the 3rd or 4th grade a minute ago!

Yakima School District: Important Back to School Dates 2023-2024

HOW MANY EARLY RELEASE DAYS IN THE 2023-2024 INSTRUCTIONAL CALENDER YEAR?

I have counted eight (8) early release days for the Yakima School District 2023-2024 school calendar year. These dates fall on the last Wednesday of every month, with the exception of December and June.

• September 27th
• October 25th
• November 29th
• January 31st
• February 28th
• March 27th
• April 24th
• May 29th

WHAT OTHER HOLIDAYS DO WE NEED TO REMEMBER FOR THE YAKIMA SCHOOL DISTRICT 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR?

There is no school on Labor Day (September 4th)

School is closed on Monday, November 10th for Veterans' Day

No school on MLK Day (January 15th)

President's Day is a holiday, so no school on February 19th.

No school on May 24th or May 27th for the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

June 7th is a holiday because of Treaty Day, so no school on that day.

WHEN IS THANKSGIVING BREAK?

November 20-24th

(Native American Heritage Day is November 24th, so school is closed.)

WHEN IS WINTER BREAK?

December 20th, 2023 thru January 2nd, 2024

WHEN IS SPRING BREAK?

April 1-5th

WHEN IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL?

This is the question we've all been waiting for, I suppose! If there are no remaining Snow Days to be made up by June 19th, then the official last day of school is June 18th, which is an early release day. The calendar lists Juneteenth Freedom Day (June 19th) as a school holiday, so kids will have that day off regardless of Snow Days.
