19 votes shy of becoming the third Seattle Mariner to be voted in to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

Martinez, in his ninth year of eligibility, looked to become the first player who spent the majority of his career as a designated hitter, now enters his final year on the ballot after garnering 298 of the 422 total votes cast.

Going into the class of 2018 will be Atlanta Braves switch-hitting stalwart Chipper Jones,  slugger Jim Thome, Dominican-born Vladamir Guerrero and the all-time leader in saves Trevor Hoffman. The good news?

Fan-favorite Martinez took to his Twitter page to offer thanks
