Have You Seen the Horse on Mt. Adams? It’s Coming Soon

When I was growing up in Yakima, my mom would tell me about the horse on Mt. Adams. No, not a literal, physical horse. Just something that looks like a horse in Mt. Adams. Have you seen or heard of this, too?

The idea being that when the snow melts from Mt. Adams, the way the mountain is shaped, the snow melt area will unveil the silhouette of a horse. And you'll be able to see it very soon, maybe as soon as this weekend.

There are some in Yakima that seeing the horse in Mt. Adams is the first true sign of spring. Not what a groundhog may or may not see, not flowers blooming, this horse on Mt. Adams.

We're expecting pretty high temperatures this weekend so I have a feeling that the window of opportunity to see the horst on Mt. Adams is pretty limited. You can kind of see it now coming through. You can see where it will be but give it a few more days and you should be able to see it a lot better.

I'll keep an eye out for it as well.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. Using March 2019 data from the Social Security Administration, Stacker compiled a list of the most popular names in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., according to their 2018 SSA rankings. The top five boy names and top five girl names are listed for each state, as well as the number of babies born in 2018 with that name. Historically common names like Michael only made the top five in three states, while the less common name Harper ranks in the top five for 22 states.
