Historic Washington Home. Peek Inside. What’s the Sale Price?
When something makes it onto the National Registry, it's a pretty big deal. Especially for us here in Washington State, a relatively recent addition to the Union in 1889. According to nps.gov,
The National Register is the official Federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. National Register properties have significance to the history of their community state, or the nation.
This is the first in a series of articles on some of the Historic Homes that exist in Washington which also happen to be for sale. We begin this week with a true national treasure that is for sale in a lovely Western Washington town.
The Starrett House, Port Townsend, WA
According to the listing on Zillow, The Starrett House is referred to as
'the Grand Dame', on the National Historic Register as 1 of only 3 pivotal Victorian homes in Port Townsend.
The breathtaking photos in the gallery that follows will tell you everything you need to know about this gem. The listing suggests this masterpiece is suitable for occupation as a home or as a Bed & Breakfast. Sign me up!
Built in 1889 by George Starrett for his wife Ann. This home has 11 bedrooms, 10 baths, library, parlor, sitting room & more. A rare free hung staircase rises 70 feet from entry to dome. Frescoes of maidens grace the dome.
Listed at $1.5 Million, I'm taken by just how reasonable this asking price is. Certainly, if you have a need for 11 bedrooms, you won't find too many homes to accommodate that requirement. But for a B&B, that's where it starts getting interesting. Perhaps I hear my retirement dream calling?
Situated on a corner lot- sited to maximize light and views from every room. Exquisite woodwork, painted high ceilings, period light fixtures & hardware, fire suppression system & fir floors. Close to downtown, shopping, library & beaches. Time-tested brick foundation & sturdy faux slate roof.
Port Townsend is a popular vacation and tourist destination. Puget Sound beckons and Starrett House may just be the place you need to call home. Gaze at the photo gallery.
