‘Hop Citrus Glazed’ Pork Shanks are a Win at this Popular Yakima Hot Spot
I'm constantly on the hunt for the greatest food in the Yakima Valley. Entries, desserts, what-have-you, if it's edible, I wanna know about it and experience it for myself.
Today my quest took me to an expected place with unexpected results.
I remember it well. It was a Wednesday. I know that because The Kiln used to have Cheese Zombies on Wednesdays. In fact, that was the primary reason we went to The Kiln on Wednesday for their amazing Cheese Zombies.
Well, unfortunately, that promotion has sailed the seas of cheese. They no longer do this. Though if you're looking for great Cheese Zombies, there are several locations in Yakima that still offer these, often times daily!
But, since we were already here and I do like the food at The Kiln, we figured we'd explore other options.
When in doubt, we just get a few things and share them all. I noticed a couple of new items on the menu. One being these pork shanks. As we were placing our order, my kid just wanted the bread and beer cheese which is always a winner. We grabbed some pork belly nachos and no sooner did I start to say the pork shanks she also said, "maybe the pork shanks?" Sounds like it was meant to be.
And I'm glad we did! Keep in mind you only get three pork shanks but you also get a small bed of potatoes cut into 8th. Not quite jo-jos but not quite french fries. They're great.
The pork shanks were cooked to perfection as you'd imagine. By themselves, they were amazing. But when you dip them in this green sauce of unknown origin, they're even better.
We tried to dissect what this sauce without looking at the menu. It was something zesty and citrisy. Whatever it was, it was great. Turns out it was a cilantro lime aioli. Nice!
If you find yourself at The Kiln for a pint or three, I'd recommend the pork shanks.
