Surprise! Turns out The Human Bean is closed.

Permanently.

We were out running some errands yesterday and figured we'd treat ourselves on the way back. It looked like business as usual. There was even someone inside the cute coffee shop as we pulled up.

But along with the guy inside who was apparently removing items off the shelves, there was this sign on the window.

It reads:

To all our valued customers, this
location of The Human Bean is
PERMANENTLY CLOSED

This is as unfortunate as it is sudden.

Something like this isn't the first time this has happened.

If you remember back to the late '90s, Video Update on 24th and Nob Hill was open one day then, the very next day, had the district manager doing one last round of inventory putting everything in boxes. I had a friend who worked there and I was able to come down and see for myself.

But unlike returning a movie the next day, this is a coffee shop on a popular corner of 56th and Summitview.

I will morn their loss as I loved this spot. I was excited to see them come to Yakima about five years ago and loved the gimmick of them including a chocolate-covered espresso bean with each drink.

I was particularly a fan of their frozen hot chocolate.

Not sure what will go into that location now. The building is already there so would be nice to be another coffee shop. I know most would sarcastically say, "yeah, that's what Yakima needs is another coffee stand," but I could see another local shop move into that location as well.
