Yakima drivers are dealing with higher gas prices this week rising 5.3 cents per gallon to $3.62, according to a recent survey by GasBuddy of 91 stations in the area.
The increase follows a 3.2-cent hike from the previous week, signaling a continued upward trend in fuel costs.

IT'S BEEN A YEAR OF RISING PRICES

Compared to a month ago, Yakima prices are now 16.2 cents higher, although they remain unchanged from this time last year.
In contrast, the national average price for diesel has decreased by 2.4 cents over the past week, also stabilizing at $3.62 per gallon. In Washington State, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is currently $3.96, a modest increase from $3.94 last week.

WE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS

For those looking for the lowest gas price in the Yakima Valley it can be found at Wheelers Smoke and Gas in Mabton, priced at $2.86 per gallon. Meanwhile, Costco and Ahtanum Fuel Stop in Union Gap offer gas at $3.10 per gallon, according to Sunday’s reports.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that while the national average gas prices have seen little change recently, tensions from President Trump’s imposition of tariffs on Canada and Mexico could affect regional prices. The administration has agreed to pause the tariffs against Mexico.

WE CAN EXPECT MORE COST INCREASES

"These tariffs have already led to retaliatory measures on U.S. goods, escalating trade tensions," he explained. "While the tariffs on Canadian energy could impact fuel prices, a prolonged trade war may weaken global economies, reducing demand and potentially offsetting some effects."
De Haan anticipates a slow but modest increase in fuel prices, particularly in regions that are heavily dependent on Canadian crude oil imports. As Yakima residents fuel up for their weekend drives, they may want to keep a close eye on these fluctuating prices.
