If you live in the Pacific Northwest it's likely you own a gun. According to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System one state in the northwest where you'd think gun sales are down is Oregon.

GUN SALES ARE UP ALL AROUND THE UNITED STATES INCLUDING OREGON

Surprisingly Oregon is 4th on the list of states with highest gun sale purchases in the nation. It should come as no surprise because the experts say gun sales have increased all around the nation in the last 5 years. System officials say gun sales increased at the end of 2019 and into 2020 gun sales were at record level. Since then there's been a slight decline in sales at an annual rate of 17.4 million guns sold in the United States.

THREE STATES LEAD THE NATION IN GUN SALES BUT OREGON IS NUMBER 4

The leading states in gun sales are Alaska, Montana and Wyoming. There's good reason why sales are up in these states with many rural areas and many who shoot for sport and survival. For many in the top three states guns are just part of life and the states where they live have less restrictive gun regulations.

LESS RESTRICTIVE LAWS MAKE IT EASIER TO BUY A GUN IN THE TOP 4 STATES

Those who live in the states say it's easy to obtain and own a gun with no restrictions on things like magazines or assault weapons. Oregon however has very restrictive gun laws. In 2022 the state of Oregon instituted a requirement that those who who want to purchase or acquire firearms must first secure a permit.

WHILE SOME LAWS ARE TOUGH BUYING SOME GUNS IN OREGON IS EASY

But unlike the state of Washington AR-15 rifles are legal to purchase and own in Oregon. Background checks are required in the state but there's no waiting period when purchasing a firearm. Those laws mean more people are buying guns in the state of Oregon, 4th on the list of states with highest gun sale purchases in the nation.
