Ways to Help During a Drought in WA
Remove Dry Hazards Around Your Place
It's unfortunate that Washington (as well as California, Oregon, and Canada) have a habit of catching fire every due to dry conditions. You can help by removing tumbleweeds or anything dry to clear it up.
Reduce Water Habits
The go-to 'use less water' as if we didn't know. Shorter showers, don't leave the sink on when brushing your teeth... the kind of stuff you should already be doing. But if you have a leaky faucet, now would be the best time to fix it. While you're at it, double-check your toilet to see if it's using more water than it needs. Toilet technology is much improved. Maybe even consider getting a new eco-friendly toilet that still works great with half (or less) water usage.
Consider your Plants
How much water do you spend on your planets? One idea could be to swap out your typical plants that require much water with plants that don't. Cacti aside, they have plenty of plants that don't require as much hydration.
Invest with that New Money
In using less water, that means you'll be paying for less water in your utilities. It'd be worth looking into rebates on low-water appliances as well. In conserving water you may find you won't have to pay as much.
Educate Yourself on Where Your Local Water Comes From
It's one thing to say 'Yeah, I won't use as much water,' but if you find how where and how your local water comes from, you'll have even more of an appreciation for it. It's like when you use your own veggies from your own garden vs. just buying them from the store. That appreciation will come into play.
