"Thanks, Trump!" Said my one friend while we were at the West Valley Dollar Tree in Yakima, Washington. "How long has he been out of office, and you're still obsessing about him? He's living rent-free in your mind! Besides, all the prices skyrocketing is happening on Biden's watch," said my other friend. I hate politics, so I decided to shut the conversation down, "Hey! It's Christmas time! Save that talk and debate for your awkward family dinner on Sunday!" Luckily, that made us all laugh.

It still didn't change the "aww" that we shared. The fact that The Dollar Tree, commonly known (at least in my circles) as "the dollar store," is now selling stuff for more than a Dollar. The prices rose from $1 to $1.25 in select stores in the latter part of 2021. By mid-2022, Dollar Tree was selling most of its products at the higher price.

Most of the store is still $1.25, but now you can see that they're upping their price game, especially in the frozen section. Tagging it as "Dollar Tree Plus!", you can get items for $3, $4, and even $5. Now, a Red Barron pizza for $4 is a good deal. Nowhere near the best price I've seen, but far from the worst. $3 for individual frozen meals and $5 for frozen food that can be spread out (potatoes, pizza rolls) can be a bargain. It is, but from the "dollar store"?

Is this a sign of the times? Will they even be a "dollar store" anymore, or do you think they'll go the way and just become another generic store with "dollar" in the name (Dollar General, Dollar Stretcher, etc.)? Tap the App and let us know your thoughts.
