My mother passed away when I was 18. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her or am reminded of her by something I see. She taught me many things, but most of those are basic life skills. How to cook, how to sew by hand, how to argue and debate, and how to apologize when I'm in the wrong, but to stand up for myself when I'm in the right.

Besides the basic life skills, I'm drawing a blank to key things that she told me. Now don't get me wrong, my mom was a great mother. I would like to think that I've grown into a respectable and polite man, and without her (and my father's) teachings, that wouldn't have been possible. But when it comes to the whole "sit down, and remember this" type of bits of advice, I'm having a hard time coming up with them. There are two things I do remember, but one of them, I can't quite recall if it came from my mom, or my grandmother (her mom). Either way, it was something that I try to do every single day.

Now, I'm telling you all this for two reasons, one if your mom is still with you today, not only give her a hug, but talk to her. If by chance you and your mom are not talking for whatever reason, try to mend that fence and rebuild that bridge. Even the effort of trying to fix the problem, will be beneficial for you in the long run.

The other reason I bring this up is with Mother's Day fast approaching, I wanted to know what some life tips were from our listeners, so I asked. Yakima's moms are witty, caring, and hilarious! I have included the other very important life lesson that my mother told me, in the list of 25 Life Tips From Moms of Yakima, Washington.
