Maddie & Tae's "Die From a Broken Heart" video is just as heartbreaking — and beautiful — as the song. The duo predominantly wrote the storyline and treatment, with Tae Dye stepping into an acting role to better help tell the story.

“We knew that with a song like 'Die From a Broken Heart,' the music video needed to come from that same vulnerability and that’s exactly what we did,” Dye says via press release. “We went back and forth with our director Carlos Ruiz for weeks just trying to make sure we had all the tools to make this story come to life. This music video was healing for me and I hope it plays a part in someone else’s healing as well.”

“Carlos was the best director to collaborate with on this video,” adds the duo's Maddie Marlow. “He really listened to our vision and what we wanted this video to look and feel like. Carlos came up with the bones of the treatment and we filled in the details with what inspired 'Die From a Broken Heart.' My goal was to tell the story as honestly as possible and make people feel for either the one with her heartbroken or for the best friend having to watch her go through it. Tae was so vulnerable and did an amazing job acting out her story. I’m so proud of her for going there fully, so that others can connect. Of all the videos we’ve created, 'Die From a Broken Heart' is the one I’m most proud of making.”

The video opens with Dye in the passenger seat of a car, driving down a country road with a man smiling at her. Marlow is then seen in a field wearing a stunning red gown, singing along to the song. The visuals depict the evolution and story of Dye's relationship, flashing to her and a boyfriend in their new home before quickly bouncing back to the present, where Dye is seen along crying on the same bed where she and her love had previously been laughing. Each space in their home seems to hold a memory for Dye, with the stark contrast between her happily in love and crying alone in the same space, including getting engaged.

The video cuts to fights she and her fiance had before she jumps out of his car while he drives away. Dye then comes into the scene with Marlow before the video flashes to Marlow walking up to Marlow's door with a bottle of wine and a hug for a friend.

Maddie & Tae are currently supporting Carrie Underwood on her Cry Pretty 360 Tour through the fall alongside Runaway June.
