New Technology Lets Shrunk3D Turn You Into a Statue
What you're seeing is not a line-up of people of varying sizes, these are mini statues. Like a single-pose action figure that this company can take you and 3D print you into that exact pose. It's insane technology and I couldn't wait to get it done for myself as well as learn more about it. Here's what I found out.
I saw this booth at Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas. They had a few fun things to take advantage of including a photo session in their booth as well as a 360 wrap-around photo for a fun effect to put on social media. But what I was most intrigued by was this trailer that said Shrunk3D and outside where these fun little statues.
As it turns out, these statues are of real people who were scanned in 3D, then shrunk down and 3D printed.
But not your typical 3D printing but a high quality, HD printing that shows details like tattoos.
How they accomplish this is there's a trailer that has a bunch of cameras angled from all directions. It gets your front, sides, back and tilted from above and even a few from below.
The cameras, in total, take 182 photos. It sounds like a long time to post but the entire process takes a matter of moments. Maybe a split-second.
Quick, easy and painless.
From there, it gets sent off to get 3D printed (perhaps by the corporate office) and shipped to your door in 3-4 weeks.
I got this done for myself. I'm looking forward to the final product and will share when it arrives. But I wanted to get the word out now.
Shrunk3D in Houston is locally franchised but anyone can start this business locally. I think it'd be super fun to have a business like this in Yakima. Who knows, maybe we'll see one in our area someday.
