These Carrots Made WA Residents Sick Due to E. Coli
According to the FDA, 5-8 people have reported getting sick due to these specific carrots.
That's more than enough reason for the FDA to issue a product recall.
These carrots are a product of Grimmway Farms. They have a few varieties to look out for.
See the FDA site for all photos of what carrots to look for.
These range from full-sized carrots to baby carrots in several varieties of bags.
I definitely recognize a few of these types of bags when I shop as I love carrots.
Some of these are sold in most grocery stores in Yakima and in all of Washington State.
A few stats from FDA:
Total Illnesses: 39
Hospitalizations: 15
Deaths: 1
Last Illness Onset: October 28, 2024
States with Cases: AR, CA, CO, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TX, VA, WA, WY
Product Distribution: Nationwide
International Distribution: Canada, Colombia, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates
No doubt this would ruin any Thanksgiving if something like this happened to you or someone in your family.
These should have already been recalled but the FDA is warning against you already having these in your fridge or freezer so check for those times and dates just in case.
It's unfortunate as sometimes with these recalls it's sometime a 'might' get sick with no recorded cases, but in this case when there have been illnesses and hospitalizations and even with a death, it's not worth the risk.
