When you think of Thanksgiving meal, what items do you think of on the dinner table?

Sure, you think of turkey and maybe your favorite sides like traditional stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and gravy on everything. It's a great way to celebrate family, togethernesss, thanks, and bounty.

But what are some other items that some regions in the United States would find very traditional, though us here in the Pacific Northwest might be scratching our heads about.

Here's just a few to consider.

Northeast

If you find yourself in the northeast, you may find oyster stuffing over traditional stuffing a popular favorite.

Maple is big in that region, too, so you shouldn't be surprised to see something like maple-glazed carrots.

Parts of Pennsylvania may opt for something called Shoofly Pie which is molasses pie.

South

If you find yourself in the south, get ready for a culinary treat.

Cornbread dressing (don't call it stuffing) is fantastic as is the collard greens and no table would be complete without mac & cheese.

They also have something called Chess Pie which is a buttery, custard-y pie and is fantastic.

Southwest

Many have their way of seasoning their turkey but in the southwest area of the United States like Arizon and New Mexico it wouldn't be uncommon to season your turkey with a chile rub along with a hatch chile stuffing. Plenty of rice, beans and for dessert go with the tres leches cake.

Mountain West

Places like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana you could find deer or even bison roast on the thanksgiving table.

Dutch oven potatoes, sourdough rolls, and perhaps something called sheepherder bread.

Midwest

Green bean casserole. I know, most people in Washington have that, too, but it was invented in the midwest. I think most casseroles were invented in the midwest. You'll also find Jell-O salads, scalloped corn, wild rice stuffing (mostly in Minnesota) and something called cranberry fluff.

No matter what's on your plate, have a happy thanksgiving!
