The Washington State Patrol is out enforcing the "Slow Down, Move Over" law this weekend.

If you are not familiar with the law, it basically means pulling over for first responder vehicles such as ambulances, patrol cars and fire engines.

If the lights are flashing, you're are supposed to slow down and move over and allow the first responders to pass.

Here is how the official law reads:

State law requires drivers approaching a stationary emergency vehicle or a recovery or repair vehicle, including tow trucks, to slow down and vacate the lane next to thestopped vehicle, if they are able. If drivers are not able to move over, they are required to slow down and be prepared to stop

Watch for emergency or work zone vehicles, including:

• Authorized emergency vehicles using audible or visual signs.

• Tow trucks making use of visual red lights.

• Vehicles providing roadside assistance using warning lights such as WSDOT incident response trucks.

• Police vehicles displaying a flashing, blinking or alternating emergency light.

• Stationary or slow moving highway construction or maintenance vehicles, solid waste vehicle, or utility service vehicle making use or flashing or warning lights.

The ticket is $214 and it's a fine that can't be waived or reduced. The Washington State Patrol is doing an emphasis patrol this weekend, so be aware. You can check out more details on the law here.
