So You Know, Radio Shack is Alive and Well… just not here
Over the weekend I found myself in Layton, Utah.
Layton is about half an hour north of Salt Lake City. There was a convention called the Utah Retro GameXpo that I was invited to check out and I figured Utah is a quick flight from Yakima and I was even able to take the afternoon flight there from YKM and return around Noon on the flight home. Always a bonus.
Near the event center where the convention was happening I spotted this very familiar sign.
Radio Shack
"Radio Shack?! I thought they all closed," I thought.
At first I thought it was a relic of the past. A feint glimmer of retail history off across the parking lot of the esteemed Chili's (where I ate with my friends when I landed).
Then it dawned on me... there are still lights in the sign.
Sure, not the entire sign is lit up, but enough to show someone has to pay for the power.
As I got closer, there were still items inside the store, too.
By this time I was already past closing so I didn't get a chance to go inside. I would have loved to have, just to see what they had.
I have a lot of fond memories shopping at the nearby Radio Shack when it was where 1up Games is now on 24th off of Nob Hill.
It warms my hear to know there's still at least one Radio Shack out there.
