Texas Residents Moving to Washington State at Shocking Pace: What the Hay?
I just read an article that said Texas has the third most amount of newbies moving to Washington state. What the hay?
It's understandable that residents from California, Oregon, or Idaho want to live here in Washington, I mean, we're not that far away. But TEXAS?
What does Washington have that people living in arguably the biggest state in the U.S.A. want?
Here are my three guesses as to what the reason is NOT.
THE SPORTS
I can't imagine why someone living in the land of the Dallas Cowboys and the Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and the Astros would want to trade that in for the Seattle Seahawks, Sounders, the Kraken, and the Mariners, but I digress.
THE WEATHER
Who would want to give up warmth for rainy days on the westside of WA or the desert lands of the East? On second thought, it is unbearably dry and nothing but cactuses and lone stars in Texas, so ours would be a welcomed change of scenery.
THE FOOD
Don't get me wrong, our food in the Evergreen State is delicious and we have some award-winning cuisine in Washington, but our BBQ leaves a lot to be desired when compared to Texas.
Here's why I think Texas residents are moving to Washington (at an alarming pace, if you ask me--sorry, we're already full).
CHANGE OF SCENERY
Which would you rather: tumbleweeds, extreme heat, cactus bushes, and churches on every corner, or lush evergreen trees, fresh Pacific Northwest air, and coffee shops on every corner? (Hey, wait a second! I'm not saying anything is wrong with churches on every corner, but I am saying that great coffee helps you stay more awake in church, amirite?)
We have all four seasons, we don't have any dry counties, our quality of life is heaps better, and our outdoor recreation in Washington can't be beat.
And you and your Texas memaw can fight me on that one! :-P That being said, I was declared an Honorary Texan by my friends in Austin a few decades ago!
