Relocating to Spokane: Here’s Some Important Things to Know Before You Move
Spokane is located in what is known as the Eastern Washington part of the state. It is home to about close to half a million people spread throughout the region. It is one of the biggest cities here in Washington, yet somehow Spokane manages to keep a homey, small-town feel to it. I mean, you still feel like you're in a city, just a smaller one.
One of my favorite things to do in Spokane is shopping and catching a cool indie band playing at a venue. One time, I got to see Flogging Molly. I had never heard of them before I moved to Washington. They were pretty good.
If you're planning on moving to Spokane, locals say it's a great place to raise a family for the most part, although there has been an increase of druggies in the streets and an increasing amount of people living on the street. That's pretty much normal for most medium-sized to big cities in the U.S., unfortunately.
You may have to occasionally suffer through wildfire season if you live in Spokane because of its proximity to Canada, so keep a stash of N95 face masks tucked away in your closet.
Housing and apartments are not cheap in Spokane, but at least you won't have to face ridiculously expensive Seattle, Renton, Yakima, or Tacoma rental prices.
Here are some of the pros that locals have to say about living in Spokane:
"In the winter, go to Mountain Spokane for skiing and snowboarding, even snowshoeing. We have some great parks. If you have a discovery pass, you can go to a great state park called the Bowl and Pitcher." - Ethloc via Reddit
"Neighborhoods (Five Mile Prairie, Indian Trail, and the South Hill south of about 14th street are great!" - Benonymous707 via Reddit
And now, for some of the cons:
"Cons: needs more diversity all around." - luxsmucker via Reddit
FUN FACT: Washington does not have a state income tax!
