It comes around every year. Often, right around the first day of summer, and this year, they're happening on the same day. I'm talking about Father's Day.

Did you know that Father's Day has its origin right here in Washington State? Yep, Spokane to be specific. The first known celebration of this special day was back in 1910 at the Spokane YMCA.

According to Wikipedia, Father's Day was founded

in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there.

Speaking as a father and grandfather, Father's Day for me is really more about the celebration of my family. The best gift in the world is being able to spend some time with and enjoy those who have made me a dad and papa. The toughest and most precious job any fellow could have.

We took some calls from listeners today and asked Dads what they really wanted for Father's Day. No, it wasn't a tie or cologne or a goofy hat or jelly of the month club membership. All of those things are great, for sure, but each of the dads who called in said the most important thing is to spend time with, whenever possible, their families.

It could be a simple get-together, do some grilling, or some kind of outing the whole family can enjoy together. Making the list of material things were beer, whiskey, gift cards to purchase hobby-related items, cool clothing that they may not buy for themselves, and things that were homemade were mentioned by most dads.

I'm cool with a new boat and 4x4 pickup. Just sayin'.
