It was a big weekend for the Eagles, who gathered together to perform for the first time since the death of Glenn Frey in 2016. Though a tribute to a classic rock legend, country music was part of the evening in the form of Vince Gill, who was on hand to perform with the band and honor the late star.

The legendary rock group reunited at Classic West at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday (July 15) to perform a string of hits and pay tribute the beloved member of the group. Frey died from rheumatoid arthritis in January of 2016. Gill took the stage to perform tracks "New Kid in Town," "Lyin Eyes" and "Take It to the Limit," in addition to playing guitar on "Heartache Tonight." Original band members Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh were all on hand, along with Frey's son Deacon, to perform signature tracks like “Take it Easy," “Witchy Woman," “Desperado," "Hotel California" and several more hits.

This isn't the first time the country legend has joined forces with the rock group. Gill paid tribute to the Eagles at the 2016 Kennedy Center Honors, alongside Ringo Starr, Bob Seger, Steve Vai and Kings of Leon, for a performance of "Life in the Fast Lane" and is set to play with them again at 2017 Classic East show on July 29 in New York.

“In my mind, I always thought I’d have made a good Eagle,” Gill admits. “But in a million years, I never would have seen this coming. It’s pretty surreal. I turned 60 recently, and to get to be a part of this amazing legacy of songs, that’s the greatest part of all this for me.”
