As the Yakima Valley comes to grips with the arrival of the coronavirus, Virginia Mason Memorial is working to make screenings for COVID-19 more accessible to the community. The hospital announced Sunday that it will "repurpose" the Creekside HealthyNow clinic into a testing center.

If you have symptoms of the virus -- a cough, fever and shortness of breath -- you can visit the clinic online or call (509) 225-4669 to set up appointments. VMM asks patients visiting the clinic to remain in their vehicles and call (509) 225-4669 to confirm their arrival. Someone from the clinic will then meet patients individually and escort them into the building.

The clinic is at 3909 Creekside Loop, Suite 115. Hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

VMM also announced plans to open a longer-term center to treat COVID-19 patients. And workers are setting up a large green tent near the doors of the Emergency Department at the main hospital in Yakima, 2811 Tieton Drive, to provide triage and screenings in case large numbers of patients start seeking emergency care.
