Washington State is Great at a Lot of Things. Traffic isn’t One of Them
We're fortunate we live in Eastern Washington and, more so, we live in a city like Yakima that doesn't have traffic compared to Seattle or Tacoma. That didn't stop Washington state for being one of the worst states to drive in.
WalletHub was looking into states that are terrible for driving in and, in fact, of all states, Washington state came in 2nd to last, with only Hawaii being last place.
So many things went into this list like cost of ownership, cost of maintenance, traffic, infrastructure, safety and access to safety and maintenance.
I knew the Seattle/Tacoma area was bad, but didn't know it was this bad. Good thing we don't live there but for those who do, and I know a few, maybe that's why they opt to just take the bus or ride their bike in the warmer months. Can't be fun.
Along with being 2nd place for worst state for driving in, we're also 35th for rush hour traffic congestion, 43rd for car theft, 47th for average gas prices, 47th for auto-maintenence costs and 46th for road quality.
We are better than average, however, for car dealerships per capita as well as auto-repair shops per capita. 20th place on both of those.
