The Washington State Spring Fair is Here (well, in Puyallup, but still!)
The Washington State Fair in Puyallup, WA, does something interesting that many other state fairs don't do, they have a supplemental fair in the spring. Like many fairs around the country, the state or even local and county fairs around the United States are often a last chance bit of fun before it gets too cold to do anything outside. They often land during harvest season so there's plenty of food options and those fun baking competitions.
Here in Yakima we have our spring carnival which is pretty nice, but in Puyallup it's like they just do a second fair complete with rides, food, events, and more.
Any reason to visit the Washington State Fairgrounds just for the Fisher Scones is reason enough for me.
It's split this year from April 11-14, then April 18-23.
Different days have different gimmicks, too. Like on both Thursdays they offer free parking. Events like that are always worth looking out for.
Lots of entertainment as well, even for a spring variation of their state fair including the death-defying DockDogs, the Racing Pigs, and you can experience the Wheels on the Farm.
Plenty of shopping to be had, too, with all the vendors they have inside the giant building.
For an additional fee you can also experience Expedition Dinosaur.
The Washington State Fair is the largest in the Pacific Northwest and one of the largest fairs in the world. If you've never been it may be worth the drive to check it out.
If anything, just to experience those Fisher Scones for yourself. They're on another level.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

The 2020 County Health Rankings values were calculated using mortality counts from the 2016-2018 National Center for Health Statistics. The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.

The top five boy names and top five girl names are listed for each state, as well as the number of babies born in 2018 with that name. Historically common names like Michael only made the top five in three states, while the less common name Harper ranks in the top five for 22 states.
