Yakima Has Some of The Worst Air Quality In The World
First thing in the morning, I take a look at our gorgeous Ahtanum Ridge as I start my day. This morning I could not see it. In fact, I could not find it. The haze of thick smoke in the air, made it impossible to see. Needless to say, the skies not only looks ominous, they are ominous.
According to The World Air Quality Index, The State of Washington has some of the worst air quality in the world. This if course is due to the fires in the region including Oregon and California.
Air quality is measured between 0 and 500. Between The lower the number, the better the air quality. The higher the number, the worse the quality.
As of this writing, Yakima has an air quality index of 363.
It was measured as high as 438 earlier this morning marking it as some of the worst air quality in the world. That says something as China and India consistently have some of the worst air quality in the world. In Yakima, we doubled that number – at our peak, we tripled it.
The air is so bad, some local government workers were given the day off due to the hazardous air quality. Something I have never heard of.
The National Weather Service has extended its bad air alert until Friday. So you might want to make any necessary adjustments to any outdoor activities. Experts say that the bad air could be with us for a couple more weeks and even perhaps a month.
Until then, stay indoors, use the recirculation button in your car. We'll keep you updated.
All My Best,
