In the past we've looked at the most dangerous intersections in Yakima. In a town that's mostly grid-shaped for streets, every town has their share of dangerous intersections. The intersections that are well-traveled and may have an access of red-light runners.

But what about the opposite?

Well, sure, I'm sure could you call out an intersection like 28th and Clinton Way that might only see residential traffic vs. the main traffic on Nob Hill, but, as it turns out, there are 13 intersections in Yakima that should deem more safe than before with added elements to make them safer as of recent months.

A Safer Yakima

The City of Yakima took some popular intersections around town and made them safer a few different ways.

One was to let them start to walk first, then give drivers the green light so drivers wouldn't just take the turn without noticing the pedestrian as well as enhancing safety for our slower moving pedestrians.

  • 5th and Lincoln
  • 1st and Walnut
  • 3rd and Walnut
  • 5th and Walnut
  • 6th and Walnut
  • 1st and MLK Jr
  • 24th and Nob Hill
  • 32nd and Nob Hill
  • 3rd and Mead
  • 40th and Powerhouse
  • 3rd and Yakima
  • 8th and Yakima
  • With these improvements hopefully the accident numbers will drop in 2026.
