Reading is so important. It helps you improve your vocabulary and expand your mind. TV has really taken away from our imagination, that's for sure. It is also exciting when our libraries in the Yakima Valley come up with something new for us to discover -- especially new authors for us to read. Yakima Libraries is beginning a new series called "Authors Out Loud." How exciting!
It always cracks me up that in the midst of all the turmoil and problems our great nation faces, there is always something completely stupid that a politician does. I mean, how random is it that Republican Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Arizona's John McCain have introduced a bill that would do away with the penny?
I drink regular coffee. I use my percolator and some creamer and I am good. My daughter goes a few steps further, though. She drinks the darkest black coffee you can find and when it comes to espresso, she takes five shots.
When I say "Mom & Pop" I mean hardworking local people who have started their own small businesses. Thus, the phrase "Mom & Pop." Starting your own business takes a lot of guts, willpower and some good hard work to keep it going. We have some excellent small businesses in the Yakima Valley. March 29 is National Small Business Day, so I salute them today.
Watching Sprint cars is such a good time. Fast-paced racing action and a good time to hang out with your friends. The Sprint cars will be at the SunDome dirt track this weekend and you cannot miss it. They do not come around very often, so this is a special treat.
It is rare that I purchase anything online. I am always worried someone will get my information. I know a lot of people in Washington who do, though, and they never seem to have any problems. I guess I am just paranoid!
But I certainly wouldn't purchase a clam gun online!
I think I am addicted to Google. I Google-search everything. If my front page is another search engine I get out of there and go right back to Google. Besides searching for what I want at a particular time, there is always something educational on Google's front page to keep me intrigued for hours. Right below the actual search bar for Google is a toggle of sorts. You can click on it and it will take you to random places. One of the toggles asks "Do you feel lucky?" I felt lucky, so I clicked on it. The question that it gave me was fascinating.
I have the hardest time with vacuums. It seems that whenever I get one, it always breaks down. A couple of years ago, I bought a really expensive one. I kept up with it as far as maintenance goes. I kept it clean and well oiled. It didn't matter.
Back in the day, when I used to date a lot, I always had a "list" in the back of my mind for dating. Of course, I would ask some standard questions and if there was a "no" in any of them, the date was over. I know that's kind of harsh, but it is the truth. So, I had a "dating resume. I just didn't put it on paper. But a Michigan kid has, and it works.
While I was growing up, my mom used to give me a bath before I went to sleep. As I got older she used to tell me that I needed to shower so I'd be clean when I got in my sheets. When I had my child my mom finally told me the truth -- that taking a bath or a shower helps soothe the savage beast. Ha! I wasn't that crazy. But she's right, water truly does calm a person. That has not changed, long after I've grown up.
