I like going to restaurants every now and again because it is nice to let someone else do the cooking for me. I love to cook, though. And when the kids and I are out in public, one of my biggest rules is that they have manners ... even if some people around them don't.
I went fishing this weekend -- like I always do! Four a.m. is the best time to do it because you can catch a lot of fish and there aren't a whole lot of people around yet. It is peaceful. Jeeps are actually quite peaceful while they are driving, too. But when you are trying to catch a fish and a Jeep lands in the water, you don't have much luck after that.
The Yakima Valley seems to be growing a little bit more every day, and new businesses keep popping up. It seems, though, that the businesses are often similar. For example, Mexican restaurants. I love Mexican food, but we have a billion Mexican restaurants already. We also seem to have a mattress store on every corner. I haven't bought a mattress in years. Don't need to. When I need one, I will have a billion options. But what sorts of businesses would you like to see come to our area?
I love Google Earth. It really is so much fun to go to different places in the world and dream you could go there just by the way it looks from Google Earth. Little did I know that the shape of a couple of blocks in our very own neighborhood in Yakima would be a '12' for the 12th Man Seahawks fan!
Washington towns and city's are fairly easy to pronounce, if you have lived here. If you are just some normal person checking out towns in Washington State, there is no way you could pronounce some of them. Here are the 5 hardest city's in the state of Washington that out-of-towners wouldn't know unless they have heard them pronounced.
I love it when people can sing our National Anthem. Even if it is not so good, at least they still know the song. I think it is important if you are a true American. When someone nails it driving around in their car, well, they win the day!
One of my biggest pet peeves while driving are people who do not use their turn signals -- or they use it seconds before they actually turn. It drives me crazy. Especially when there is a ton of traffic and you have nowhere to react if there is an accident.
When I first started in the work force, I didn't take a sick day or a vacation for almost three years. I was bound and determined to get ahead in this life. Then I got sick and had to take off five days. When I got back, they said I had three days left for the entire year. What the heck? Three years without taking any time off and all I have left is three days? That is a bunch of crap. I certainly get more time off now, but is it enough?
April Fools' Day is here and it is time to plot out jokes no one will forget. One of my favorite jokes ever is the old saran-wrap-on-the-toilet trick. If you do it early in the morning, no one will notice that the crap isn't going down. YUCK! But that one's getting old. What jokes do you play? Here are a couple that only someone from Yakima would get.
March 28 is "Weed Appreciation Day," but I don't mean just marijuana. (We'll celebrate that on April 20.) I am talking about all nuisance weeds: crabgrass, dandelions, cocklebur, prickly lettuce and even carpetweed.
