Be Careful, Be Safe, Be Aware – Mayor’s Blog

Surround yourself with the right people, and realize your own worth. Honestly, there are enough bad people out there in the world – you don’t need to be your own worst enemy.

-Lucy Hale

There are very few things left sacred in this world and it’s your job to protect them in yourself. One of the worst feelings in the world is being used by someone, and it happens more often then you would think. You may be getting used right now and you don’t even know it. What you tolerate you encourage. So, the question is, what are you tolerating?

When I first got into politics I was pretty naive about the ways of the world and some of the people in it. Most of the lessons I’ve learned after serving almost 8 years on the Yakima City Council can be applied to life in general. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I’ve gained with the next generation and seeing the impacts on their lives as they grow up to become the leaders of tomorrow.

One thing you need to know is that, minus Mother Teresa, most people in this life are out for their own personal satisfaction and gain. There are very few truly selfless people. Be careful when someone you don’t know very well wants to get close to you. Make sure they are around for the right reasons! Listen to your gut and watch how they treat other people. Everyone is going to have different relationships with some of the same people, and some people I know don’t like each other. I know their are people that pretend to like me…The one thing to remember is always tell the truth and be honest with everyone, including the people you love. Also know that karma will take care of the rest.

You Can Easily Judge the Character of a Man by How He Treats Those Who Can Do Nothing for Him.
