
10 Cool Facts: Noon, OR – The Backwards-Spelling Town
A palindrome is a word or sentence you can spell forward or backward. Radar, wow, peep, kayak and even race car are palindromes. They even made a documentary, The Palindromists, that showcases the world championship. Noon is as well. Not just the time but the city in Oregon.
Yeah, believe it or not, there's a place called Noon, OR and it's a little more interesting than you'd give it credit for.
Noon, Oregon, is considered an unincorporated area. That means this is a town without a mayor.
Not just unincorporated small, but people who live in the town of Noon don't even have a Noon address. Though the town is named Noon, the address' city will say Philomath. That seems like false advertising.
Noon is not just a small town but in a small county as well. Benton County, OR only hosts a population of 96,000. That's less than the city of Yakima.
Noon is a small town? How small? They don't even have a McDonald's. In fact, they don't have any restaurants. Not even a gas station. If you need something to eat, you better head to the neighboring Flynn, Philomath or, the biggest town nearby, Corvallis.
Though small, it does provide Student Transportation of America, a school bus service that's always looking for new drivers. If you're in the area, wouldn't be a bad place to find a job.
One of the longest roads in Noon? Wait for it. Noon Rd. Imagine that.
Noon is so unincorporated that Google Maps didn't even bother to drive all the roads in that town. It barely went down one street and said to themselves, 'Yeah, I saw enough.' and turned around and left.
Seems Noon, OR is definitely a blue collar-type area. Their major place of employment is the local saw mill.
Though you'd think there wouldn't be much to do in town, it's only 45 minutes to Newport beach and there are great camping and hiking spots even closer. If you're an outdoors-type person this place may be perfect for you.
Although he's nearby you can follow noonthedude on Instagram who regularly posts photos of his trek in the Noon area.
