The James Beard Foundation is a nonprofit that cheerleads restaurants, foods, and the chefs on a whole 'nother level. The awards they present are very prestigious and celebrated by those who seek to win an award, themselves.

Think of it like the Oscars for chefs and restaurants.

Yakima's own Los Hernandes Tamales is such a winner.

They announced the nominees for 2024 and it's nice to see so many restaurants and chefs representing the Pacific Northwest.

Here are the nominees for the James Beard Awards representing our region according to Eater.com. Again, these aren't the winners but they're nominated with others from across the United States in these categories.

Outstanding Restaurateur
Quynh-Vy and Yenvy Pham, Phở Bắc Súp Shop, Phởcific Standard Time, and The Boat, Seattle, WA

Outstanding Chef

Nothing from Yakima this year, or even Eastern Washington for that matter. I could see some quaint eatery in Walla Walla win some year, or the people at Crafted take home something sometime, but in the meantime we can still cheer on those here on our area.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
