A Time To Honor Those in Yakima Who Gave All For Freedom
Over the last two years Yakima hasn't had a chance to thank and honor those who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. But that changes in 2022. Ed Falter, the parade coordinator with the Marine Corps League of Yakima says registration is now open for the annual Memorial Day Parade. Memorial Day is set for Monday May 30 but the parade is set to happen on Saturday May 28. The parade on Yakima Avenue starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 28. Staging for the parade starts at 8:00 am.
If you attend don't wear something that looks like the flag
Falter asks that everyone observe the proper display of the American Flag by all units. The flag must NOT be worn as a garment during the parade.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed every year on the last Monday in May. The holiday honors those who died serving in the United States military. In the United States Memorial Day is the first holiday that kicks off the start of the summer season. Labor Day weekend signals the end of summer.
As a result of the holiday most government and businesses offices will be closed.
The Yakima Marine Corps League is hoping you'll help
According to CalendarDate.com On May 3, 2000 the "United States (signed by then President Bill Clinton) government pushed out the “National Moment of Remembrance” for Americans at 3:00 pm local time on Memorial Day to take several minutes and stop and reflect and have awareness and reverence for those who have died defending our Nation and our values."
