The weather is getting warmer and because of the pandemic quarantine lockdown, most, if not all, of us are feeling antsy. We want to get out of the house and get back into Mother Nature.

A great hike in the wilderness could do the trick. You could pack up a small lunch and some snacks, put on your best Pacific Northwest outfit starter kit, throw on some hiking shoes and get outside on the trail.

If you are new to the area, you are dying for some great suggestions for the best places in the Yakima Valley vicinity for hiking. Reddit is a great resource for recommendations from the locals and the people who've moved here and now call themselves locals.

One Reddit user, MelissaChristanson, says we should try the "fabulous hikes on Rainier". Last August, my daughter, Willow, and her Girl Scout troop took a camping trip up to a spot near Mt. Rainier, and it was majestic.

I am too old and too fat to enjoy hiking anymore, but even I had to admit Mt. Rainier and its adjoining trails are perfect to get your hike fix.

Other suggestions from Reddit readers included Mt. Clemens and the Ahtanum Ridge trails. I have lived in Washington state since 2002 and I have never heard of Mt. Clemens, so I had to look it up. It turns out that user EWA_1 had misspelled it; it's Cleman Mountain, not Mt. Clemens! Cleman Mountain is near Yakima, so I'll have to check it out.

I am quite surprised no one mentioned the Yakima Greenway, which spans several miles and is great for hiking on flatter trails. No one mentioned the Cowiche Canyon trail, either. I did a hike with some friends up there a few years back. It was a bit challenging, but not too much. I highly recommend it.

Where would you suggest someone go hiking around here?
