While my wife and I were out and about this past weekend, visiting the different varieties of craft fairs, pop-up vendor markets, and checking out various Easter holiday bazaars, looking for a gift that could come from Mr. Peter Cottontail.

We asked the question, 'how about a book?!?'

Yakima is very blessed to have a handful of great bookstores like Churchill's Booklover's Haunt, Inklings Bookshop, and Encore Books, and while we were at the latter, my wife found something that I never knew existed.

At the vendor event at Encore Books, my wife got what I jokingly called "a husband's night off," and my wife added, "a husband replacer!"

(We'll see after I tighten all of those jars).

What she ended up getting was something I've never heard of and thought was pretty neat.

A "Blind Date with a Book" was what she called it and what a great idea.

What Is A 'Blind Date With A Book'?

To me, it was like a game of Russian Roulette with Literature.

She bought the wrapped package (pictured above) and seemed happy when she opened it.

Microwaveable popcorn, hot cocoa, stickers, highlighter pen, sticky tabs, and of course, her blind book date, a steamy-looking romance novel called Broken By Lies by Rebecca Shea.

I asked her if she had ever seen this type of thing before, and she had seen it on Etsy.

My only comparison in my nerdy brain is buying a random box of comics for $25 on eBay and hoping you get something good (you barely ever do).

I thought this Blind Date With A Book was a really cool idea, and it got me wondering what other things could work like this.

Board/card games might be the only other thing that I can think of that would work well.

Electronics have so many variables (power, software, etc.), and when it comes to food, you might as well walk into a fast food place, slam a $50 down, and say, 'Surprise Me!'.
