Christmas time is only a couple of months away, but there are already efforts underway to gather holiday toys for children and winter coats for lower-income families in the Yakima Valley.

I was running errands this past weekend and stopped at my bank to get some quarters for the laundry. While I was there, I saw this sign hanging up:

"Coat Drive for YWCA: Keep our neighbors warm this season by donating a new or gently used coat. Drop off coats for kids and adults at any branch through October 27." - Solarity Credit Union

They also have a drop-off box in the lobby for kids and adults new or gently used coats.

The United States Marines Corps Reserve has a toy drive every year (since 1991) to bring smiles to kids all over the valley. This is done on a volunteer basis! Last year, they were able to raise 7,500 toys for 3,500 children living in the Yakima Valley.
