A water rescue on Sunday at Rimrock Lake is a reminder say local authorities to stay safe on the water. The incident happened Sunday at about 4:00 pm. when the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call from a father at Rimrock Lake who told them he and his 12-year-old son where on the lake and that the motor to the 16-foot boat had stopped working.

The father couldn't restart the boat the wind was picking up

The father told authorities he was unable to restart the engine and that the wind was picking up and blowing them towards the bank and rocks along the lake. A press release from the sheriff's office says Deputies with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit happened to be patrolling along White Pass and responded immediately. Sheriff's officials say the 51-year-old male and his 12-year-old son from the Olympia area were found along the shore of the lake with a steep embankment making it tough for rescuers. The press release says a volunteer with the "Naches Fire who had heard the call responded to help. They say he had a length of rope, and the father and son were pulled up the bank to safety."

Authorities say both father and son were wearing life jackets

Authorities retrieved and towed to the boat launch. Deputies say they discovered that the "bow line had fallen into the water and trailer under the boat and had gotten wrapped around the prop of the motor, causing the boat motor to stop running."
Both the father and the son were wearing life jackets. Deputies say this is a reminder to all boaters to pay attention to ropes attached to boats while under way."
