The Evans Canyon Fire is growing with five homes destroyed so far and firefighters scrambling for containment. The fire is now more than 52,000 acres and was uncontained as of Wednesday night. More than 900 homes are under Level 3 evacuation orders. The American Red Cross is helping some 60 families evacuated by using rooms at local hotels. The Red Cross has set up an emergency phone line in operation 24-hours a day at 509-594-0016.
The fire started Monday afternoon and the cause remains under investigation. Five homes have been destroyed and more are threatened.
More than 400 firefighters are now on the scene battling the flames. Firefighters have another day Thursday of hot temperatures and gusty winds.
Yakima's State Fair Park is open for those who need a place to keep animals and park RV's. Fire officials urge people to stay out of the area.
