Green Porch Lights in WA, OR, CA? Trust Me, It’s a Good Thing

The porch light is something most take for granted. To most, it's just a light so you don't trip on the stairs or something to make it easier to find the keyhole when returning from a night on the town.

During Halloween, having a porch light on is the signal of whether a house is celebrating or not (we never knock on the doors without a porch light).

During April you may see some blue porch lights for Autism Awareness.

A quick and easy and often low-maintenance way to show support at times.

What does a green porch light mean?

According to AUSA.org, a green porch light is in favor of our US military veterans.

There are some who only do this around Memorial Day and Veteran's Day but there are some who just keep it green all year 'round, which is fine by me.

"Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. "Greenlight" is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and "greenlight" them forward as valued members of our communities."

It's an easy way to show your heart on your sleeve. Or home, in this case.

If you happen to see a house with a green light, you know they support our US military veterans. And if you happen to see it not during Memorial Day or Veteran's Day, they really support them or maybe have a family member currently serving.
