Imagine a world in which your entire life is on your phone. It's not to hard to imagine because most people now use their phone for everything from talking to texting to paying for items at the store through a digital wallet.

A STATE LAWMAKER WANTS WASHINGTON TO BE THE NEXT STATE

Now you may also be able to leave your drivers license at home. Because a new bill in the state legislature is set to establish the groundwork to make digital licenses a reality in Washington State. Many people now use a digital credit card or digital boarding pass to fly so using a digital drivers license seems like a logical progression. While digital licenses aren't allowed for use in Washington state they're already in use in Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland.

Earlier this year TSA started allowing digital licenses at specific airports
The state's allowing a digital license offer stand alone apps and Apple last year also began allowing customers to add their ID or drivers license to the Wallet app available on iPhone or the Apple Watch. Sen. Mark Mullet (D-Issaquah), sponsor of SB 5105 says the bill requires the Department of Licensing to develop a plan to implement digital licenses by the end of the year.

WOULD YOU TRUST YOUR LICENSE BEING ON A DIGITAL FORMAT?

Would you place your drivers license on a digital app? Some people say no because of privacy concerns. Officials with the ACLU say they're concerned about police using the digital licenses to search a phone, location tracking and threats from scammers or hackers.
If the bill is successful you would still have the option of using a physical license rather than a digital version.
