What local restaurants do you think more people should try near Yakima?
We asked that question to some of our Townsquare Media Yakima followers in the Nextdoor app and two answers promptly appeared in the comment section: Nomad and Crafted.
Nomad and Crafted: Two Local Yakima Restaurant Gems Worth Mentioning
I would imagine that a lot of Yakima locals know about (and possibly have dined at) Crafted, but not many know about Nomad. I was invited to a friend's birthday dinner there once and I had never even heard of the restaurant before. I was very impressed with the ambiance of the open kitchen concept, the elegant decor, and the food.
Nomad is located in Tieton at 700 Maple St; it's a pleasant 20-minute drive from Yakima city limits.

Here are other restaurants that I think more people should try next if they are looking for something new or a great place to have a special dinner, whatever your occasion is.
EZ Tiger
222 E Chestnut Ave, Downtown Yakima
Come for the happy hour, stay for the Pad Thai and edamame. If I were you, I'd either make reservations in advance or call in with a to-go order; it gets packed here.
Reno's on the Runway
2012 S 16th Ave, Yakima
Did you know there a cute little nook where you can eat some of the best food in town that's practically hidden in plain sight? I love the way they've decorated the inside. There's a patio, too, if you want to overlook the Yakima Airport runway while you eat and drink.
White House Cafe
3602 Kern Rd, Yakima
I can't sing this restaurant's praises enough; I want to know the secret to how they make their sandwiches taste so fresh and flavorful. A good place to meet a friend or colleague for lunch for a posh little setting that makes you forget you're still in Yakima.

That makes five unique restaurants on my list, and here's five more. Their food, ambiance, and service (one even has fast drive thru service) are above par.
Fuego
I consider myself to be a salsa snob; not everybody's restaurant has good salsa (whatever happened to people's taste buds?). Fuego has the best salsa in Yakima, if you ask me; them and El Porton de Pepe on South 5th Ave.
El Rinconsito on Nob Hill
1101 S 3rd Ave, Yakima
Taqueria El Rinconsito Hours:
8 a.m. to Midnight: Monday through Friday
8 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays
Sure, it's a food chain, but this El Rinconsito location has a drive thru! This makes it very convenient to pull up and quickly get some really good Mexican food. Perfect for those times when you're craving a chicken enchilada with rice and beans but don't have all day to wait for your meal, like me.

La Plazita
505 1st Ave, Zillah
Taqueria La Plazita & Antojitos Hours:
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday thru Saturday. Closed on Sundays.
The bowls of salsa and chips alone are worth the drive, but the rest of the food is impeccable, too. The patio is a fun and popular place to meet up with friends, too. It's a hot little spot in Zillah (a short 25 min drive from Yakima).
Yakima Thai Cuisine
14 Staff Sgt Pendelton Way, Downtown Yakima
Hours:
10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Mondays thru Thursdays (and 9 p.m. on Fridays)
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays
In my not so humble opinion, this restaurant has the best shrimp Pad Thai in the whole city, hands down.
Purrr
306 E Yakima Ave, Yakima
Hours:
11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays (closes at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays)
Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
I love the eclectic design of this 21+ only restaurant; it's giving modern industrial! Purrr's appetizers and drinks are to die for. It's a perfect destination for friends' night out, birthdays, and office parties.
